Two postcards ,
Mailed in 1909 and 1912 .
Both for Vermont : one to Ludlow and the other to North Springfield .
Very nice cards , full of colors .
And a somewhat bizarre view of turkeys as pets .
I never saw turkeys so nice in my entire life .
And the chubby girls ... fat turkeys and chubby girls ... the image of well-being at the time .
What is interesting are the messages sent ...
In one , the writer is saying that they had 2 or 3 inches of snow on the ground .
We are far from the sunny image on the card !
On the second one , the writer is saying that her mother had bananas and grapes for the Thanksgiving feast and requires her sister to bring '' a piece of cheese if you want to bring a small piece . ''
Obviously this was not a rich family but I hope Fanny , the writer , had a nice Thanksgiving - and a nice life !
On the Icefield ?
No Thanksgiving here ...
As you can see , it is snowing right now and the ski hills are officially opening this evening .
They are trying to bring the '' Black Friday'' tradition with prices that are not that attractive . I hate when they denaturate a Holiday ( not ours ) and make it a spending spree , an Ode to Consumerism .
But who am I to have a say about popular culture ?
